January 5, National Bird Day of India. Why and When is National Bird Day Celebrated?

What is National Bird Day:

It is a day to recognise the incredible diversity and ecological importance of birds in India and to raise awareness about the threats they face. National Bird Day, observed every year on January 5, aims to raise awareness about the importance of birds in our ecosystems and their conservation.

The day aims to encourage people to appreciate the beauty, diversity and importance of birds while promoting efforts to protect their habitats. In India, this day has been introduced as a platform to show how we can all contribute in our own way to protect birds and their habitats. It is also a day when we need to raise awareness about the dangers of the cruel bird trade. The idea is to stop the trapping of birds for profit or for the mere amusement of humans.

Meaning and celebrations:

The living conditions of birds have deteriorated greatly due to human activity. From deforestation, climate change and global warming to habitat loss, birds have lost their homes and thus their quality of life. National Birds Day coincides with the annual Christmas Bird Count – the world's largest scientific project counting wild birds in the United States of America. The best way to celebrate this day is to raise awareness of the actions we need to take to ensure that more birds have better living conditions and that captive or farmed birds are released.

Summary:

Birds play a vital role in the Indian ecosystem; they help control insect populations, pollinate plants, and disperse seeds. They also bring joy and beauty to our lives with their songs and colors.

However, many bird species in India are threatened by habitat loss, pollution, and hunting. National Bird Day is a reminder that we need to do more to protect these valuable creatures.
